Company: Galloway Lazer and Print owned by John Galloway
In business: 2010
The company’s beginning: In 2010, John and his wife purchased a funeral home in their hometown in rural Pennsylvania. As a way to supplement their income and add to their services, they bought a laser engraver to produce tombstones, etch on caskets and urns. In 2014, they purchased a Roland BN20 cutter, then in 2016 at NBM Indianapolis, they met TRW and Matt Vassallo.
What drew you to TRW?
“Sitting in the class at NBM, I, basically like Matt, watched hours of YouTube videos and just watching him do allthis stuff that would take hours to do in CorelDRAW, with TRW Design Wizard. I said to my wife, ‘I don’t care how much that is, we’re buying it,’ because I said to her the design flow is so much easier. Then we bought some of the artwork packs. (The artwork is great because) the biggest issue with the laser engraver is having good, clean vector artwork so it goes right along with the vinyl cutter; if it doesn’t have good lines, it’s not going to cut well.”
How has TRW Design Wizard helped to grow your business?
“It took it from where I could do one design and now I can do a bunch in a day – I’m the only one who does the designing – and, so the biggest thing was the time I was able to add it, in turn, increased our workflow because now we can push more stuff out the door on a regular basis.”
What products and equipment do you use the design packs and TRW Design Wizard with?
Engraving stone, glass, wood, leather, metal, and acrylic. Vinyl, sublimation, printing, and various promotional products.
“I actually use it on everything from simple designs on wine cases up to tombstones. (The) place and fill feature (has been helpful); I don’t have to zoom in and figure out where my contour line is on the curve and I can just add it as another color and I design everything at scale, I just do a 2-inch island with the island fill and it’s done. There’s nothing I haven’t been able to do with it. My biggest shock has been time-saving.”
Did you plan for your business to grow as it has? “It truly felt that it would just be a hobby something that would keep us busy a day or two out of the week but it has definitely become more.”
Galloway Lazer and Print has outgrown the funeral home office and is being adapted into a showroom in a newly built addition above the Galloway’s garage. TRW wishes Galloway Lazer and Print continued success and appreciate how we’ve been able to help them grow and expand their hobby into a prominent business venture.
